First BTECS in Engineering Awarded

Reproduced with permission from The Marine Society & Sea Cadets

Two London Sea Cadets were presented with their certificates by The Lord Mayor of London at the World Maritime Day event. These are the first Sea Cadets to gain Edexcel's BTEC First Diploma in Engineering (Maintenance) through the Cadet Vocational Qualifications Organisation (CVQO).

Matthew Ball from West Ham and Christopher Bevan from Thurrock, both 17 years old, are the first to have achieved this distinction, which has enabled them to boost their qualifications with the equivalent of 4 (A*-C grade) GCSEs or 4 Scottish Standard Grades (Levels (1-3), all earned in their own free time.

The BTEC First Diploma in Engineering (Maintenance) was launched in February 2007 at the Sea Cadet Engineering School within HMS GANNET at RNAS Prestwick in Scotland.

The BTEC is an internationally recognised qualification from Edexcel, supported by employers and educators alike, which gives real credibility to the training syllabus the Sea Cadets have completed.
