Onscreen Testing: Key Skills / Adult Literacy and Numeracy - available on demand
When? Where? You decide!
Our onscreen testing system for the Key Skills and Adult Literacy and Numeracy has been successful in reducing the administrative burden on centres and has proven to lead to higher pass rates than paper-based tests.
Onscreen testing makes the experience more enjoyable for the candidate and increases flexibility for the centre, but is designed and validated with the same rigour as the traditional testing method. In summary, the system is reliable, easy to install, enjoyable for the candidate and easy for the centre to administer.
The DfES are certainly impressed:
| "We have been very pleased with the progress made by Edexcel through their provision of their onscreen testing system for Skills for Life and Key Skills. |
"Edexcel have been very supportive of the DfES 'Skills for Life' onscreen testing initiative to date and we look forward to seeing the number of test centres able to deliver Skills for Life tests growing from the current level of 220 trained centres over the coming months." Barry Brooks, Acting Director of the Skills for life Strategy Unit (SFLSU), DfES
Centres are also impressed:
| "The onscreen testing has provided North Hertfordshire College with an opportunity to run Basic and Key Skills tests at levels 1 & 2 with unprecedented flexibility; learners can be entered for exams, sit the exams and have their results all within a matter of hours! |
"Most learners prefer to sit their exams in front of computers and value the familiarity of doing tests in their normal learning environments rather than in exam halls. They also find the way in which they record and check their answers less complicated than with the paper-based system. As a Key Skills Co-ordinator, I would also not want to go back to only having paper-based tests and welcome the continuous development of the onscreen testing programme." Matthew Rowntree, Key Skills Co-ordinator, North Hertfordshire College
"Through the use of Edexcel's Onscreen Testing system, attendance for key skills and ALAN tests has improved dramatically. The system was easy to install and manage. More importantly, candidates enjoy being assessed using the system because of the excellent user interface." Dave Coleman, Deputy Director, Adult Education Basic Skills & Learning Support, Havering College
