NVQs in Policing - full suite now available

We are pleased to announce that the full suite of Edexcel NVQs in Policing, developed with the Skills for Justice Sector Skills Council, and funded through the Home Office, are now available. It comprises,

• Policing L3 and L 4
• Police Supervisory Management L3
• Police Operational Management L4 and L5
• Police Organisational Management L4
• Police Strategic Management L5

The Edexcel Level 3 and 4 NVQ in Policing provide transferable skills and knowledge specific for new entrants to the service. The whole of the Police Probationer Trainer Programme has now been re- written and incorporates these level 3 and 4 National Occupational Standards.

The new probationer training, to be called the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme will be implemented from April 2005 enabling Probationer Constables to evidence learning gained during their initial training. They will then be assessed when they put their learning into practice.

As work based competence gains momentum in the sector, the remaining five NVQs at levels 3, 4 and 5 will be linked to the changes in process for those seeking promotion through work based competence assessment.
