Language Units attract points for the DfES School and College Achievement and Attainment Tables (formerly Performance Tables). Each Level 1 NVQ Language Unit attracts 7 points and contributes 5% towards the threshold. Each Level 2 NVQ Language Unit attracts 12 points and contributes 5% towards the threshold.

For more details on the School and College Achievement and Attainment Tables see the paper on the policy section of our website.

Some centres have recently experienced difficulties obtaining funding for NVQ language units. It appears that centres have been told that the Edexcel NVQ units are not eligible for funding. This is not the case.
· The NVQ language units are eligible for LSC funding for learners aged 16-18 and learners aged over 19.
· On the LSC’s learning aims database these qualifications will have the U-numbers code used by QCA, but the AB field will say ‘multiple’ to reflect the fact that the same U number is used for the 4 different awarding bodies.
· The dummy Q numbers QCA use for the “Award in Languages” qualification codes (e.g.Q7700001) will not appear in the LAD.

For more information on this please see the Funding Policy Watch - Update, and the Funding Policy Watch - Rates documents which can be found on our Policy and Research section here. The Rates document lists the codes you need for all the NVQ Language
