| Question: | What is secure content? | |
| Answer: | Secure content refers to any document (PDF, Word etc.) or page on the website to which access is restricted. Only staff in centres that are administering or running a particular Edexcel qualification will be able to view secure content for that qualification. For example, a secure GCE Mathematics document is only available to staff from a centre that currently offers GCE mathematics with Edexcel. | |

| Question: | Where are the secure documents and pages for the qualification I teach/administer? | |
| Answer: | We are introducing secure content gradually. You will notice that we haven’t published any secure documents or pages for many of our qualifications. Over time, you can expect to see secure content extended to the majority of our qualifications. | |

| Question: | Which documents and pages have you made secure? | |
| Answer: | We are introducing secure content in stages throughout the Qualifications area our website. The first phase includes the new GCSE English pilot qualification, our full range of qualifications in Mathematics (GCE, GCSE, Entry level and Advanced Extension Award) and the new 360 Science suite. Secure content will be extended to other qualifications in future. | |

| Question: | Why have you made documents and pages secure on the website? | |
| Answer: | Much of the information and support material we provide for our centres is intended exclusively for customers who teach and administer Edexcel qualifications. It’s part of the service that we provide you for running Edexcel qualifications. Placing secure content on the website allows us to reduce the number of items we send to our centres through the post. You will be able to view new materials sooner and get access to them online whenever needed, confident that you are accessing the most up-to-date information. | |

| Question: | How can I gain access to secure material for the qualifications that I teach/administer? | |
| Answer: | In order to access secure documents and pages on the website, you need to have an Edexcel Online account. To obtain an account, contact the Edexcel Online administrator in your centre. If you already have an Edexcel Online account and your centre runs a particular qualification with Edexcel, you will already be able to access any secure content concerning that qualification. Please note: even with a user account, you will only be able to access secure content for qualifications that your centre currently offers. | |

| Question: | How can I gain access to secure material for a qualification that I am interested in running in future? | |
| Answer: | If you are considering adopting an Edexcel qualification, you may already qualify for access to the related secure documents and pages. We recommend that you use our simple facility to request full access to that qualification. To request access, please select any of the secure pages or documents that you find under the qualification concerned. Once logged in, you will be presented with a message stating that your centre does not have access to the information. Below this message you will find a simple form for requesting access. Use the text box to briefly describe the reason(s) why your centre should have access to this material. You do not need to provide any contact details as these are already held in your Edexcel Online profile. Please note: you will need an Edexcel Online account in order to access this form. You could ask your centre’s Edexcel Online administrator to notify Edexcel of this access requirement on your behalf. We recommend, however, that you obtain your own Edexcel Online account through your centre’s administrator to enable you to access secure documents and pages in the future. An Edexcel representative may contact you or your centre to discuss your request. | |

| Question: | How do you decide if my centre should have access to secure content? | |
| Answer: | In order to determine which of our qualifications your centre runs, we check all the entries and registrations that your centre has made with Edexcel over the previous two years. So, for example, if you work at a school that entered candidates for Edexcel GCSE Mathematics in either of the last two summers then you will have access to the secure material for GCSE Mathematics. We aim to provide full access to relevant secure content to all centres that are currently running an Edexcel qualification. In order to facilitate this, we ask that you alert us via our website if you find your access blocked for a qualification that you already offer. The most likely explanation is that you have only recently adopted this Edexcel qualification and have yet to make your first batch of entries. To request access, please select any of the secure pages or documents that you find under the qualification concerned. | Question: | How do I log in? | |
| Answer: | During each visit to the Edexcel website, you will be asked to log in when you try to access your first item of secure content. You will need to enter your email address and password. Once you have logged in, the content that you requested will be displayed. You can also log in from any point on the site by selecting the ‘log in’ link found in the top right hand corner of every page. As long as you do not log out, or leave your browser inactive for an extended period, you will only need to log in once during each visit to our site. Any further secure items that you want to access will then be displayed as soon as you click on them (providing your centre runs the qualifications concerned). | |

| Question: | Why can't I apply for my user account online? | |
| Answer: | Much of the information we provide via Edexcel Online is strictly confidential to your centre and your centre’s Edexcel Online administrator must verify that you are an authorised user before you can access these services. Once you register with Edexcel Online, you will be able to make use of some of the benefits that this service offers in addition to being able to access secure content. | |

| Question: | Does this mean that I have yet another username and password? | |
| Answer: | We are trying to integrate the services that we offer online to our customers. If you currently hold a username and password for Edexcel Online or for our Email Alerts service then the username and password you use to access secure content will be the same. In all cases, the username will be your email address. | |

| Question: | I've forgotten my password. What do I do? | |
| Answer: | If you are having trouble remembering your Edexcel password it is worth recalling that it will contain at least one numerical character. If this doesn’t jog your memory, you can request a new password by entering your email address in the ‘forgotten password’ page. You can also use the ‘Forgotten password’ link that appears on every log-in screen. We will send a new password to your email address straightaway. When you receive it, we suggest you log into your account and change the password to something you will remember more easily. | |
