The IT training awards took place in February 2008 at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The awards recognised those who have made extraordinary contributions to advancing computer skills across all sectors.
Colin Steed, Chief Executive of the Institute of IT training who planned the event, commented: “The annual IT training awards honour those individuals and organisations who had really shone in the past 12 months and the evening was to celebrate their excellent achievements. We must not underestimate the importance of giving national recognition to the skills and achievements that are driving best practice in our industry.”
The awards included, amongst others, freelance trainer of the year and e-learning project of the year, in an attempt to represent all aspects of this increasingly fundamental sector.
Pearson’s electronic testing arm, Pearson Vue, sponsored the IT training manager of the year category. The winner was Jacquie Rayner, training manager of HM Prison Service. The judges were full of praise for her. They were particularly impressed with Jacquie’s passion for training and people development. They said: “She is a strategic thinker who is highly motivated, tenacious and her infectious personality shone through.”
Staff from the organisations BUPA and Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, who both work with awarding body Edexcel, won silver and bronze.
