03/07/2008    IBM - Edexcel's latest technology partner

Today, IBM is the latest major technology provider to sign an agreement to work with Edexcel in delivering BTEC Nationals for IT Practitioners. Similar partnerships already exist with  Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA.

This collaborative venture between Edexcel and IBM will incorporate IBM’s Power Systems i (formerly i5/OS) Operator examination into the BTEC National for IT Practitioners. Learners who gain the IBM  i Operator qualification will be eligible for a Pass grade for the equivalent BTEC unit. Those aiming for Merit and Distinction must also meet additional criteria set by Edexcel.

Edexcel’s Director of Accreditation & Qualifications, Isabel Sutcliffe and IBM’s Systems & Technology Group UK Vice President, Dave Kay signed the agreement at IBM’s offices in Southbank.

Edexcel’s Isabel Sutcliffe said:

“We look forward to working with IBM in delivering this qualification.  The IBM component of the BTEC National for IT Practitioners provides each learner with appropriate teaching so that they have the knowledge to sit for the IBM Power Systems i Operator qualification at course completion.”

IBM’s i Operator course is a comprehensive introduction to the management and control of the IBM i operating system working on IBM Power Systems architecture.

The course involves hands-on, lab-orientated activities extending learners’ technical skills. It is delivered through a blended learning approach, where tutor-led teaching is combined with electronic materials.

BTEC Nationals for IT Practitioners offer practical, internationally recognised, work-related learning which is ideal for those considering a career in the IT industry. The qualification contains a selection of embedded vendor awards from Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft and now IBM, adding further value, recognition and enhanced achievement.
