27/02/2008    Ongoing training provides security

Martin Rowbotham is a security supervisor with Swindon Council’s Commercial Services, but besides his normal duties he now features in a new series of adverts for the awarding body Edexcel, highlighting the importance of continuous training.

The series, which potrays real people who have benefited from training with Edexcel, includes a police officer, a human resources director and a member of the Ambulance Service, who all know the value of, and have gained from, doing tailor made qualifications or courses.

Martin was quick to seize the training opportunity he was offered. “When I joined Swindon commercial services it was great to see how seriously they took my career.” He was able to do a BTEC - Business and Technology Education Council – qualification. “The BTEC courses taught me everything from new legislation to effective conflict management.” This training is seen as vital for a dynamic workforce, and as Martin adds, he was proud to be part of the “professionalism of the security industry and to be able to apply for a Security Industry Authority license.”

It is anticipated that using real workers in ordinary but indispensable jobs will draw attention to the advantages and importance of continuous learning, no matter what the age or position within the company or organisation.
