21/11/2007    BTEC student achieves excellence

Congratulations to Karl Everett from Westinghouse Rail Systems who won the Management and Leadership Achiever of the Year Award, sponsored by Edexcel, at the Go for Excellence Passenger Transport Awards.

Karl Everett completed a BTEC Higher National Certification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The Go for Excellence Passenger Transport Awards were held at Chelsea Football Club on 1 November and celebrate the achievements of learners and employers in raising skills levels in the sector.

GoSkill’s chief executive, Peter Huntington, said: “It is clear from the application forms and from employers feedback that these achievers are highly motivated and an inspiration to us all…we have extended the awards this year to cover achievements in a range of qualifications as well as apprenticeships”.

Karl Everett said: “I am motivated by my total interest and excitement in the work I do. I have a strong level of commitment and enjoy being proactive and setting challenging goals”.

Congratulations also go to Clare Jameson from Translink who was the recipient of the Rail Engineering Apprenticeship Award sponsored by Edexcel.

Apprenticeship programmes provide benefits for both the employer and apprentice: employers gain staff who have learned in the workplace and have skills relevant to the employer’s needs: apprentices are able to develop their abilities whilst learning.
