Edexcel and Security and Facilities Education Ltd. (SAFE Ltd.) have today signed a new agreement to further their joint working arrangement in developing qualifications for the private security industry.
Edexcel and SAFE Ltd. have worked together over the last 4 years to create the most extensive range of qualifications and support materials for the security sector. Leading awarding body Edexcel has worked closely with the Security Industry Authority to introduce a range of qualifications developed in support of the SIA’s licensing of security operatives. Critical to the success of the qualifications has been the provision of high quality teaching materials developed by SAFE Ltd. The training support CD ROMs were developed in consultation with end users who specified a number of enhancements to ensure that those who go through the programme are given the best tools for the job. Once awarded the BTEC in their respective discipline the security operative has a qualification that is recognised by end users.
To attain the highest standards of delivery of the licence to practice qualifications both Edexcel and SAFE recognised the importance of ensuring that the trainers were provided with a range of continuing professional development qualifications that surpassed the industry minimum. SAFE specialise in providing accredited courses for trainers, for example, the BTEC Award in the Delivery of Conflict Management.
In the period prior to mandatory licensing of security operatives in March 2006, SAFE recognised that small to medium sized employers required an enhanced level of training support. They introduced an innovative customer focussed service to enable companies to meet the challenging deadlines. It is this market development and customer focus that forms the basis for the new partnership between Edexcel and SAFE Ltd.
Trevor Luker, Director UK and International Education Sales at Edexcel, said: “We aim to build on the successes of the last few years and show our commitment to the security sector through the provision of high quality qualifications and products, working with SAFE supports that goal. This agreement focuses on strategy and our determination to grow market share.”
Ray Clarke of Security and Facilities Education Ltd. said: “This agreement will enable us to ensure our products meet both the requirements for students to be successful in achieving their BTEC qualification as well as the exacting requirements of discerning security companies and end users."
