02/04/2007    Advice for students revising during Easter holidays

This summer’s ‘high stakes’ A level and GCSE examinations start on 14 May.

Most students will start revising in earnest during the Easter holidays, beginning today.

Edexcel has gathered a selection of top revision tips from past students:

  • Create a realistic revision timetable – and stick to it - allow yourself time to cover your workload
  • include regular breaks and ‘chill time’ – and stick the timetable on the fridge so your parents don’t nag as they know it is your time to relax
  • find the way to revise that best suits you – keep bullet points on crib cards for quick revision
  • ‘record’ your revision to play back on and MP3, CD or cassette player before you sleep
  • make sure you have one weekend day when you don’t revise or think about exams – you need time to relax and will come back to it refreshed
  • start to think about where your exams are and when they start, what equipment you need and what you can and can’t take in with you (i.e. taking in your mobile or PDA will lose you your grade!)

These tips are taken from Edexcel’s student-dedicated website, Examzone www.examzone.co.uk

In addition to the series of top tips from students, parents and Edexcel’s examiners, Examzone features:

  • a revision timetable and exam planner
  • a range of past papers for GCSE, AS and A levels for students to use for revision and exam practice
  • links to other sources of advice and support

There are two new developments to look out for on Examzone in the coming months.

First, some audio downloads focussing on exam preparation.  Secondly, Edexcel’s new online results service (ResultsPlus Direct) which will enable all Edexcel GCSE and A level candidates – around a million students – to view their exam results online on the morning of results day from wherever they are in the world.

Through a secure log in process, students can use the online results service from any internet point – home, internet café, school computer or library.  Students will be able to see onscreen their overall grade for every Edexcel exam and a Gradeometer which graphically represents how close they were to the nearest grade boundary.
