29/05/2007    ResultsPlus registrations underway

Schools and colleges throughout the UK and overseas have now received the secure slips to allow their candidates register for Edexcel’s online results service.

So far, the initiative is proving popular – around 1,000 centres have opted in to the service and over 4,800 students have already signed up to receive their August results online.

In addition, centres throughout the UK have also begun registering to use the other services offered by ResultsPlus, which will enable teachers to quickly and easily analyse their students’ examination performance at the click of a button.

Teachers who piloted the service last year say that ResultsPlus provides an unprecedented and transformational level of information.

Through ResultsPlus Direct, students will see onscreen their overall grade for every Edexcel exam and a Gradeometer which graphically represents how close they were to the nearest grade boundary.  They will have information and support from Examzone, including links to sources of emotional guidance and advice.

The Gradeometer will show students whether they have achieved a high grade in a subject, or if they are only a fraction over that particular grade boundary.  This starts to paint a more detailed picture about which subjects they have performed most strongly in.

Colin Everest, Head of Science at West Thames College, was involved in the pilot project.  He said: “The best aspect of this, for me, was the Gradeometer, which made it really clear where people had narrowly missed out on a grade and where they had just scraped it without us having to remember lots of data and carry out scribbled calculations.”

Students at Hillcrest school in Birmingham also took part in the summer 2006 pilot. Shelley Hemmings said: “I like the idea of being able to access results from wherever you are!”

Edexcel is encouraging centres to register for ResultsPlus before the end of the summer term.
