The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has today announced the results of the Diploma Gateway process.
145 groups of schools, colleges and training providers (‘consortia’) have been approved to offer Diploma courses in construction and the built environment, engineering, health, society and development, IT, and creative and media.
Edexcel’s Managing Director, Jerry Jarvis, said: “We would like to congratulate those consortia who have been approved, and we look forward to working with them on these exciting new qualifications.
“To ensure that learners in 2008 are given the best possible opportunity to succeed, it is right that only those consortia who are most readily able to deliver them take the first phase of the Diplomas forward.
“However, we fully understand that today’s announcement will be disappointing for consortia who were unsuccessful in their Gateway applications. Edexcel will be offering schools, colleges and training providers a series of alternative ways forward and support with future Gateway applications.”
If you have been successful in the gateway process and want to be considered for the Edexcel functional skills or Diploma pilots, please visit our Diplomas website.
Consortia members who were not approved to offer Diplomas from 2008, should watch this space for further updates.
Full details on the Diploma Gateway Results can be found on the DfES 14-19 education and skills pages.
Edexcel will be offering the full range of Diplomas at each level. For more information, visit our specialised Diplomas and functional skillswebsites.
