29/06/2006    Edexcel appoints new Director of Qualifications and Standards

Edexcel has appointed Isabel Sutcliffe as Qualifications and Standards Director, following the retirement of Dr Paul Sokoloff.

Ms Sutcliffe, currently Chief Executive of the awarding body NCFE, will join Edexcel in October.

A previous DHL Boss of the Year, Isabel Sutcliffe is also a Director of the Federation of Awarding Bodies, a member of QCA’s Board Qualifications and Skills Advisory Group, a member of the Specialist Schools and Academies Vocational Expert Panel, and has served as both a Parent Governor and College Governor.

Managing Director, Jerry Jarvis, welcomed Ms Sutcliffe to Edexcel and said: “Isabel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience which we welcome.  Her division is responsible for maintaining standards and developing testing and assessment across the range of qualifications that Edexcel offers and the skills she brings will help shape and develop the assessment of qualifications for our future.”

Isabel Sutcliffe said: “I am delighted at the prospect of joining Edexcel at this exciting time of qualifications reform, and look forward to joining Jerry’s team of Directors.”

Isabel Sutcliffe holds a BA (Hons) in Geography from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and an MA (African Studies) from the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies.  She has held posts as a lecturer and was, until 1990, Assistant Secretary at the NREB, now AQA.  She has two children.

Jarvis added: “Paul Sokoloff is “retiring”.  We wish him every success in this phase of his career but he will continue to be involved with education and will at as an ambassador for Edexcel.”
