19/06/2006    Welsh colleges awarded for furthering education and training

Seven colleges in Wales were have won awards for furthering education, lifelong learning and training.

The Awards are presented annually by fforwm, the association of further education colleges and institutions in Wales.

They are designed to recognise colleges that have made a particular contribution to the economic, social and cultural fabric of Wales, and initiated key developments for the benefit of learners.

The winners of the Annual Awards 2006 were:

  • e-learning: Coleg Llandrillo
  • Innovation: Gorseinon College
  • Basic Skills: Deeside College
  • Key Skills: Coleg Gwent
  • Equality and Diversity: University of Glamorgan/Merthyr Tydfil College
  • Sustainable Development: Coleg Ceredigion
  • Vocational Area Curriculum Initiative:  Coleg Glan Hafren

fforwm’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Dr Mike Jones, said: “The awards, judged by independent panels of experts, recognise outstanding achievement, highlight the breadth of provision in FE institutions and acknowledge collaboration between institutions and other organisations.  They are central to fforwm’s role in spreading good practice within the sector.”

Edexcel was one of the sponsors for the Annual Awards 2006, held on 8 June.
