27/11/2006    Supporting enterprise education and training
The world of work is fast-changing for learners – more people are working in small firms, and young people seeking work in the future will need to be more flexible and entrepreneurial.

Research by HM Treasury show that most learners think well of entrepreneurs and see running their own business as an attractive career option. Whilst young people recognise the challenges
and rewards involved in starting and running a business, many are unsure of their own ability to meet the challenges successfully. They lack the skills and confidence to turn positive attitudes into
action during their future careers.

The Financial Services Authority review of 2001, led to the several recommendations from Government, including: statutory work related learning at Key Stage 4, and all pupils at Key Stage 4 to have five days of enterprise learning.

Edexcel is engaged in Enterprise education in several ways: qualifications, support materials – such as the new GCSE computer game Business Success – and through the work of Trident, both in delivering work experience placements, and its enterprise services.

Teachers attend a training event at the London Stock ExchangeTrident Trust, part of Edexcel, held a training event at the London Stock Exchange earlier this month. Coinciding with Enterprise Week, the PDP event offered teachers the opportunity to put their existing knowledge of finance and business into context.
The course provided an insight into the stock market and share trading, plus gave teachers case studies and ideas to take back to the classroom.

Following the successful Enterprise Week launch of its new GCSE computer game, Business Success, Edexcel will be joining PIXELearning for a presentation about how gaming technology can be applied to teaching and learning, at the Digital Hollywood Europe Conference in London on 29 November.
