16/05/2006    AoC Beacon Awards 2006/07 launched

The AoC Beacon Awards 2006/2007 were launched today at a reception in Westminster.  The reception was to celebrate the achievements of the 2005/06 winners, who were presented with certificates by Bill Rammell MP, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education.

Edexcel is proud to be once again a sponsor of the AoC Beacon Awards 2006/07.  The Edexcel Award for Lifelong Learning is open to all colleges of further education and sixth form colleges which have made specific provision to attract adults to continue their education.

The Award will be given in recognition of effective and imaginative approaches to motivate adult learners.

There should be evidence that provision has:
• Encouraged the enrolment of adults who have not previously engaged in programmes of study;
• Enabled adults to complete programmes of study successfully and encouraged progression to further learning opportunities; and
• Resulted in the provision of innovative learning materials which motivate adult learners.

The AoC Beacon Awards were set up by The Partnership Trust in 1994.  Since August 1996, they have been administered by the Association of Colleges.  The AoC Beacon Awards are run through the AoC Charitable Trust, which is a Registered Charity.

The closing date for applications to the AoC Beacon Awards 2006/07 is Wednesday 26 July 2006.  Details on how to enter can be found on the AoC website: http://www.aoc.co.uk/aoc/beacon

The winner of the 2005/06 Edexcel Award for Lifelong Learning was Hull College, Community Partnerships Development.
