As part of its drive to support teachers and students, Edexcel is again hosting a Design & Technology exhibition to show what AS and A2 students’ work should look like at Grade A. Each day also includes sessions on different aspects of the curriculum, run with the principal moderators on coursework-related issues and sharing best practice.
Judging the quality of students’ coursework and awarding marks without being able to make comparisons is difficult but it is an essential part of teaching and marking well.
Edexcel’s Roger Copestake, the organiser of this popular event, says: “This year we are expecting nearly 3,000 visitors. Although the exhibition is based in Mansfield (Nottingham), we had visitors last year from Tunbridge Wells, Skegness and Ireland - all across the country. Teachers must book a date and time slot to visit.
“The exhibition is a form of best practice. It shows visibly what is expected of their AS/A2 students for them to gain an A grade in this subject. Teachers welcome the chance to see what other schools are producing, and students like to see what is expected of them.”
Ben Barker, Head of D&T at Tapton School in Sheffield added: “It’s an absolutely fabulous event. I cannot imagine teaching without it. Seeing students’ work - seeing what A grade work looks like - is a vital part of teaching development. My students like to come along and see what is expected of them too. The school supports staff attending and treats it like an INSET day - it is a very important part of developing expertise in the subject.”
The exhibition runs from 17th - 28th November at Edexcel’s facility at Mansfield, Nottingham.
Entry costs £40 for teachers for the moderators’ session or £30 for two teachers and ten students for just the exhibition.
