Please nominate someone now and give them the chance to win and enjoy the benefits of an Edexcel Achievement in Education Award. There are new awards for students, teachers, lecturers, parents and employers and these will be presented at a prestigious awards ceremony in London on July 5th.

What are the Edexcel Achievement in Education Awards?

The annual awards ceremony celebrates student achievement and, for the first time in 2001, will also recognise and reward a variety of other educational successes. The awards dinner will take place at an evening ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.

Who can I nominate?

You may know a student, trainee, teacher, lecturer or parent who deserves an award. The criteria below will help you with your decision. Fill in the appropriate nomination form and they could win an Edexcel Achievement in Education Award.

What do the Achievement in Education Awards offer to applicants?

  • Recognition for their outstanding achievements
  • Enhanced career opportunities
  • The Outstanding Student of the Year, and the nominating school or college, will each receive a £5,000 sponsored cash prize to go towards an educational activity or item
  • All other award winners, and nominating centres (where applicable) will receive £1,000 to spend on an educational activity or item or to donate to a charity of choice
  • A chance to celebrate with family and friends at the awards dinner.
  

What are the different award categories?

There are 12 Edexcel Achievement in Education Awards in 2001.

Student Award categories:

  • Lifelong Learning Award
  • Academic Achievement Award
  • Vocational Achievement Award
  • Vocational and Academic Achievement Award
  • Learning through Work Award
  • BTEC Higher National Award.

The winners in each of the student award categories will become finalists for the Outstanding Student of the Year Award. This award will be selected by a prestigious judging panel.

  • Employer of the Year Award
  • Outstanding Lecturer Award
  • Outstanding Teacher Award
  • Outstanding Parental Contribution Award
  • Educational Journalism Award.

What are the selection criteria?

All Student Award categories:

Criteria:

  • Commitment and application to studies
  • Outstanding educational progress during the course
  • Contribution to society/community
  • Contribution to centre (school, college, university)
  • Strong personal growth/development
  • Excellent communication skills and positive attitude.
  

Other Award categories:

Employer of the Year Award

Criteria:

  • Evidence of use of Edexcel qualifications in achieving business objectives (e.g. successful implementation of change, introduction of new practices)
  • Innovative opportunities to gain qualifications provided (e.g. training programmes, work placements offered)
  • Wider involvement in training initiatives (e.g. support of community and/or college programmes, participation in Investors in People, New Deal).

Outstanding Parental Contribution Award

Criteria

  • Contribution to centre (school, college, university)
  • Contribution to society/community
  • Motivation, encouragement and support of pupils.

Outstanding Lecturer Award*
Outstanding Teacher Award*

Criteria:

  • Contribution to centre (school, college, university)
  • Contribution to society/community
  • Evidence of innovation in teaching methods in Edexcel branded qualifications
  • Evidence of classroom impact through a stimulating learning environment
  • Encouraging pupils and staff to enhance their learning potential.

* For these categories, the nominator must be head of the organisation concerned.
