As stated in the JCGQ Notice to Centres, Review of Curriculum 2000: Changes to AS Assessment Arrangements in 2002 (JCGQ 01/14), further information has now been distributed on changes to assessment arrangements. The latest notice includes:
- the provisional revised GCE common timetable for Summer 2002;
- information about any changes to AS assessment arrangements in Summer 2002.
for all GCE specifications.
The GCE common timetable for summer 2002
The timetable has been reviewed in order to:
- minimise the risk of clashes for AS candidates by taking account of new subject combinations which emerged in the 2001 examinations;
- take account of changes to the lengths of some AS examinations;
- allocate a single half-day timetable session to those subjects which have a maximum of 3 hours compulsory external assessment at AS;
- make greater use of the first week of the examination timetable to allow as many subjects as possible to be timetabled on their own;
- timetable practical-based AS units in the week immediately before the common timetable starts;
- timetable A2 practical units in the first week of the examination timetable.
The timescale involved in the production of the timetable in Appendix 1 has allowed little opportunity for consultation. It is, therefore, published as a provisional timetable. Centres are invited to comment on the overall structure of AS subjects across the timetable - particularly those timetabled together in the same session and those timetabled together on the same day. The fundamental principle has been to reduce the risk of clashes for students, and amendments to this common timetable cannot be made if they would increase that risk.

Changes to AS GCE assessment arrangements for summer 2002
There will be no changes to the teaching requirement of any specification being assessed in January or June 2002, and no changes to the published assessment arrangements for January 2002. Appendix 2 lists every specification currently available, and gives details of any changes being made to the AS assessment arrangements from summer 2002. Each subject, or linked subject area, is printed on a separate page in order to facilitate distribution within the Centre.
