On-screen Testing

Edexcel offer on-screen, on-demand assessment at Levels 1 and 2 for the key skills of communication, application of number and ICT, for adult literacy and numeracy and the ESOL reading test.

Feedback from all types of learner confirming the benefits of  on-screen assessment (flexibility, instant feed-back, non-threatening environment) is very positive. Achievement is generally higher with on-screen testing compared with paper-based.

Do we need a separate centre number for our sub-sites?

This will depend on how your centre wants to be set up. If you want to use the site for onscreen testing only, we can set you up so the tests are ran at the site only, and the administration is looked after by your main address.

How long does it take to acquire a centre number, if we are a new Centre?

It will take up to 10 weeks. You must be an Edexcel Approved Centre before you can run any Edexcel Qualifications. Please go to the Edexcel Home page where you will find the forms you need to complete to become an Edexcel Centre.

How long does it take to organise the training for staff?
We offer regional and frequent training session. If there are no training sessions in your local area we may ask you to host a training session.

How long will the training take?
The training will take three hours.

Who needs to attend the training?

Your Centre will need to decide who will be responsible for running the administration of Onscreen testing. This could be the Key or Basic Skills Administrator or an Exams Officer.
The training is not technical but IT technicians are welcome.

Administering the Tests

How does registration and entry work?
Firstly create the candidate details onto the system, then set the test date, specifying whether it is an Am or PM Test. Register the candidates for the selected test.  The next stage is to download the tests onto the server, then schedule the tests. You will receive a demonstration of this at the training.

What is the cost of a test?
£8.75 for Key Skills, £8.75 for Basic skills and this includes a certificate. Students can retake the test as many times as they wish, but will need to pay the test fee each time.

How often can centres administer the tests?
The tests are available on a daily basis.

I have a student that needs a special screen colour. Can I print these papers from the screen?
Currently we offer extra time for candidates who need access arrangements. Candidates will need to be entered for the paper based test if they require brail, enlarged or particular colours on their examination paper.

How does the system accommodate candidates who require 25% extra test time or special needs?
The administrator is able to add time, if the student has special requirements.

Will we get charged for the test if a student does not turn up?
No, you will not get charged.

When do students receive the results?
The test will give an instant indication of the result. The moderated results will be returned within ten working days.
